Safeguarding Training for Music Education

Music teachers work in a way that few other roles do. One-to-one lessons, lone working in practice rooms, visiting several settings in a week and building relationships with the same pupil over many years all create safeguarding situations that generic training rarely covers. Our music courses are built around those situations, with scenarios and downloadable content written specifically for the sector.

Our online Safeguarding in Music Education course is the right starting point for school-based, peripatetic and visiting music teachers, instrumental and vocal tutors, and music service or hub staff and volunteers. It covers recognising and responding to abuse, reporting and referring concerns, one-to-one teaching, lone working, device use, online safety and Prevent duty. Anyone who has already completed it with us can take a shorter refresher rather than repeating the full course, which our customer support team can arrange.

If you teach privately or freelance rather than through a school or service, our Safeguarding for Music Teachers course covers both children and adults at risk, which matters when your pupils span every age. For amateur and leisure-time ensembles, choirs and bands, Safeguarding for Music Groups is written for group leaders, musical directors, committee members, trustees and volunteers with limited time. Whoever holds the safeguarding lead role in your service, hub or trust will need the deeper Designated Safeguarding Lead Training.
