Choosing safeguarding training for your early years setting
Training should reflect the children you care for, your working environment and your safeguarding responsibilities. Childminders and home-based childcarers need learning relevant to their day-to-day practice; staff in independently run out of school clubs need examples suited to wraparound care. Designated safeguarding leads and deputies need further training for their leadership responsibilities.

In England, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework requires practitioners to receive safeguarding training meeting the criteria in Annex C. Training must be renewed every two years; providers may also consider annual refresher training. DSL training should take account of advice from local safeguarding partners or the local authority. Choose training alongside your setting’s policies, induction and local procedures.
