More information

Safeguarding in Sunderland is overseen by the Sunderland Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) and the Sunderland Safeguarding Adults Board (SSAB). These multi-agency partnerships bring together key organisations such as Sunderland City Council, Northumbria Police and the local NHS Integrated Care Board to ensure a coordinated approach to protecting vulnerable children and adults.

The SSCP focuses on improving outcomes for children and young people by promoting effective safeguarding practices, learning from serious case reviews, and developing clear procedures for professionals. Similarly, the SSAB works to protect adults at-risk of abuse or neglect, in line with the Care Act 2014.

Both partnerships offer local guidance, resources and referral pathways that support professionals across education, health, social care and the voluntary sector. Staying aligned with these frameworks is essential for organisations working in and around Sunderland to fulfil their safeguarding responsibilities effectively.
