More information

Child Protection Scotland is guided by Scottish Government policies and frameworks such as Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) and the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007, which underpin the importance of recognising and responding to harm or neglect.

Across Scotland, safeguarding responsibilities are shared between local Child Protection Committees and Adult Protection Committees. These regional partnerships include key organisations such as Police Scotland, NHS Scotland, local authorities, Education Scotland and third-sector partners, all working together to protect at-risk individuals.

FAQs - Safeguarding training Scotland

Anyone who works with or comes into direct or indirect contact with children, young people, or adults at- risk in Scotland should take a child protection course.

We have a team of highly experienced child protection trainers who live and work in Scotland, bringing local insight and real-world experience to every session. Our trainers stay up-to-date with Scotland’s evolving safeguarding landscape, including changes in legislation, policy and best practices.

With the Child Protection Company, you're choosing trusted, expert-led training that delivers practical knowledge and confidence to meet your safeguarding responsibilities.

Safeguarding in Scotland operates under its own legal and policy framework, distinct from the rest of the UK. Key Scottish legislation includes the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 and the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007. Scotland also follows the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) guidance, which is a national policy guiding how services work together to support children and families. This means safeguarding training in Scotland must reflect these unique legal and procedural differences to ensure full compliance and effective practice.
