Course Content

What your team will learn about safeguarding adults

This is our Safeguarding Adults training course, delivered onsite at your premises or live via video conference. Every session is tailored to your organisation and sector. Whether you work in a care home, healthcare practice, charity, or supported living setting, the content reflects the situations your team actually encounters. DSL-level content can be integrated where appropriate.

A group of people doing Safeguarding Supervision with a consultant

You'll gain a clear understanding of what is expected of you and your organisation when it comes to keeping vulnerable individuals safe.

  • Understanding your personal responsibility to report concerns about adults at risk
  • Knowing the role and duties of a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • How to handle, process, and accurately record safeguarding concerns
  • Embedding a safeguarding culture across your organisation so everyone can fulfil their obligations

The course is aligned with the latest legal frameworks and government guidance, ensuring your practice is fully compliant. You'll learn about:

  • Key legislation governing the safeguarding of adults at risk in the UK, including the Care Act 2014
  • How to apply legal requirements to real-world situations in your specific sector
  • Equivalent governing body requirements relevant to your organisation

A core part of safeguarding is being able to identify when a vulnerable adult may be at risk. In this section, you'll explore:

  • The different types of abuse adults at risk may experience, and what they look like in practice
  • Signs and indicators that an adult may be experiencing abuse, neglect, or exploitation
  • How to recognise and respond to concerns about an adult's welfare
  • Reflecting on how your own values and attitudes can influence how you perceive and respond to abuse

Effective safeguarding rarely happens in isolation. This topic covers how to work confidently alongside other professionals and agencies:

  • Collaborating effectively with statutory and non-statutory agencies
  • Developing the teamwork and communication skills needed for a multi-disciplinary approach
  • Understanding the importance of safe, accurate information sharing
  • Maintaining effective communication channels that support a culture of safeguarding

Knowing what to do and doing it correctly is essential. This section equips you with the confidence to act decisively when it matters most:

  • The steps to take if you suspect an adult at risk is being harmed or is in danger
  • How to report concerns appropriately and to the right people
  • Maintaining a person-centred focus throughout the safeguarding process
  • How to share safeguarding knowledge and guidance with other members of your team
