Course Content

Core Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) topics are covered across all course formats. The on-site and live sessions go deeper into discussion, scenario-based learning, and Q&A with the trainer. All of our courses are fully CPD-accredited.

A practical overview of the DSL role - managing safeguarding processes, supporting staff, and ensuring your organisation has effective safeguarding procedures in place.
Identifying signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and knowing exactly how to respond when a concern or disclosure is raised.
Key UK safeguarding legislation and guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children (KCSiE), applied to your sector's day-to-day context.
Best practice for accurate safeguarding records, safe information sharing, and understanding referral pathways to statutory agencies including Children's Social Care.
Working confidently alongside other professionals and agencies, including Local Safeguarding Children Partnerships and statutory services.
How DSLs can promote safeguarding awareness, support staff effectively, and embed a strong safeguarding culture across their entire organisation.

Anna is a senior member of our in-house safeguarding team with an extensive career in education and school leadership. Most recently as Head of School. Her hands-on experience of the DSL role means she delivers training grounded in real situations, with practical case studies and a focus on building genuine confidence.

The full course is for individuals who are new to the DSL role or have not previously completed formal DSL training.
The refresher is for existing DSLs updating their knowledge - recommended every two years in line with statutory guidance.
The self-paced online course covers the full DSL curriculum.
Each live session booking includes self-paced eLearning modules to complete before your session, followed by a 3-hour trainer-led session delivered live via video conference. You will need a reliable internet connection, a computer or tablet, and a microphone and camera are recommended. You will receive a CPD-accredited certificate on completion of both components.

We require 14 working days' notice for any cancellation. If a cancellation is requested after this point, we will do our best to transfer your booking to another available date where possible.
Statutory guidance recommends that Designated Safeguarding Leads refresh their training every two years. DSLs should also keep up to date with annual changes to legislation and guidance, such as updates to Keeping Children Safe in Education.
If you have five or more people to train, for example, across a multi-academy trust or large organisation, a dedicated group session may be more cost-effective at £525 + VAT for up to 25 people.
