What Your School Staff Will Learn

Whether you need whole-staff safeguarding training, a dedicated DSL course, or both delivered back-to-back on the same day, we've got it covered. DSL-level content can also be woven into a whole-staff session where needed. Everything is aligned with the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education and tailored to your school's specific context.

A group of people doing Safeguarding Supervision with a consultant

You'll gain a clear understanding of what is expected of you and your organisation when it comes to keeping vulnerable individuals safe.

  • Understanding your personal responsibility to report concerns
  • Knowing the role and duties of a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • How to handle, process and accurately record safeguarding concerns
  • Embedding a safeguarding culture across your organisation so everyone can fulfil their obligations

The course is aligned with the latest legal frameworks and government guidance, ensuring your practice is fully compliant. You'll learn about:

  • Key legislation governing safeguarding in the UK
  • The Department for Education's statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children
  • How to apply legal requirements to real-world situations in your specific sector
  • Equivalent governing body requirements relevant to your organisation

A core part of safeguarding is being able to identify when a child or vulnerable adult may be at risk. In this section you'll explore:

  • The different types of child abuse and what they look like in practice
  • Signs and indicators of abuse, neglect and exploitation
  • How to recognise concerns about a child's or vulnerable adult's wellbeing
  • Reflecting on how your own values and attitudes can influence how you perceive and respond to abuse

Effective safeguarding rarely happens in isolation. This topic covers how to work confidently alongside other professionals and agencies:

  • Collaborating effectively with statutory and non-statutory agencies
  • Developing the teamwork and communication skills needed for a multi-disciplinary approach
  • Understanding the importance of safe, accurate information sharing
  • Maintaining effective communication channels that support a culture of safeguarding

Knowing what to do and doing it correctly is essential. This section equips you with the confidence to act decisively when it matters most:

  • The steps to take if you suspect a child or vulnerable adult is being harmed
  • How to report concerns appropriately and to the right people
  • Maintaining a person-centred and child-centred focus throughout the process
  • How to share safeguarding knowledge and guidance with other members of your team
