A recent report on the BBC website, has raised the issue of teenagers and self-harming. According to two major teaching unions, schools are struggling to cope with the rise in numbers of students who are self-harming.

BBC Newsbeat research into NHS figures (England, Wales and NI) demonstrate a 20% rise in the number of 10-19 year olds who have been admitted to hospital due to self-harming injuries.

The ATL and NAHT have cited spending cuts to local authorities as being the reason why schools are left without as much medical help as they had had in the past.
