Tessa Jowell donates to ‘safe haven’ campaign

Shadow Olympics Minister, Tessa Jowell has donated £100,000 – half of the compensation she received from News International over the phone hacking scandal – to London Citizen’s CitySafe campaign.  The campaign is designed to offer refuge to teenagers threatened by bullies as well as other potential victims of crime by persuading 300 business to act as ‘safe havens’.

If a teenager or young person is feeling threatened for any reason, they will be able to go into a shop or library taking part in the initiative where the person in charge will be able to make the decision whether to accompany them home or call the police.

The whole campaign will help to prevent a repeat of last year’s London riots.
