A report commissioned by the NSPCC has found that 1 in 4 adults aged between 18-24 years old were maltreated during childhood.  Although the statistics will vary from area to area, on average 7 children in a class of 28 are being impacted in some way.

The report also found that 14.5% had been severely maltreated by a parent or guardian, which highlights that problem often stems from people who should be there to protect the child.  Sexual abuse was found in 11.3% of young adults surveyed and 9% had suffered neglect.
