Sugar and its impact upon our health is a hot topic at the moment. Parents are now being advised to cut back on the amount of sugar they allow their children to consume. The Change4Life campaign has a range of ‘sugar swap’ tips that are designed to help guide parents through making healthier changes.
Current health advice is that no more than 10% of a person’s calories intake should be made up of sugar. There is a worry however, that children are consuming far more than this.
With the Health and Social Care Information Centre stating that 33.5% of children in Year 6 were overweight or obese in 2013/2014, there is clearly a need to re-think food choices.
What are your thoughts regarding this topic? Should it be everything moderation, or is sugar a real danger to children?
