Operation Encompass

Launched in Plymouth inFebruary 2011, Operation Encompass was set up to identify shortcomings in the sharing of information with schools to enable care and support to be given to the innocent children involved in domestic violence issues at home.

The concept is that if a domestic incident occurs during an evening where a child is in the house, the Police have to contact a nominated Key Adult at the child’s school before the start of the next school day.  This can then ensure that appropriate support is made for that child.

Having been trialled in 14 schools in the Devonport area of Plymouth, the operation has now been extended to all schools in Plymouth with recommendations that it be rolled out nationally.
