schools safeguarding training

Safeguarding training teaches you to protect the welfare of children and vulnerable people, so it’s incredibly important to have an up to date safeguarding certificate if you work in a school. But is training the only factor you need to consider when it comes to effective safeguarding in a school?

What is safeguarding training?

Safeguarding training (also sometimes referred to as child protection training) is a legal requirement for all professionals who come into contact with children and vulnerable adults in their work.

Safeguarding is the process of working to protect individuals (especially children and vulnerable adults) from harm such as abuse, neglect, and exploitation. It ensures children grow up with safe and effective care and are given the best life chances.

Closely related, child protection is the process of working to help children who have already experienced harm in the form of violence, abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

A verifiable safeguarding training course such as our Safeguarding in Education training (also available for Early Years and Music Education professionals) will give you a full overview of the processes and procedures necessary to deal with safeguarding incidents in the correct manner.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) is a piece of statutory government guidance written for schools and colleges across the United Kingdom, and it is your legal duty to read all appropriate parts of the document if you work in education.

Because we know how tricky it can be to keep up to date with who has or hasn’t done their essential reading, and because Ofsted will perform spot-checks to test your staff’s knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education, we have developed a complementary online course to help you keep on top of your records.

Our Keeping Children Safe in Education online course breaks the document down into easily digestible parts, presented in the style of our bestselling schools safeguarding courses, to assist in your staff’s understanding of the key document and to help you monitor staff progress via our online learning management system. At the simple touch of a button, you can easily evidence that all staff have read and understood Keeping Children Safe in Education to an inspector.

Depending on your role within the school, you will either need to read Part 1 only, or Part 1 in addition to Annex A. We explain all of this on our Keeping Children Safe in Education course page. Rolling out the document to all staff in our unique training course format will not only make your training records easy to evidence to Ofsted, it will also save you days of time on administration, as the Child Protection Company’s online system will automatically chase staff who haven’t completed the course.
