In a ground-breaking new exhibition to be showcased at the Royal Academy, 1,000 paintings, soundscapes and scupltures are to go on display. This is the culmination of collaboration between the charity Kids Company and the Royal Academy which allows severely traumatised children to work through their experiences using art, children for whom abuse and trauma are everyday occurrences. The exhibitions are being shown in the Royal Academy’s Burlington Gardens building.
Kids Company supports 17,000 such children every year. An independent evaluation by the University of London concluded that Kids Company provides “an outstanding service” to the children it serves, 85% of whom are homeless, have emotional and psychiatric disorders, are traumatised or addicted to subsidences. The main focus of the charity is the children’s recovery.
