Babysitting – Who?

As parents, we all need a break and finding the right person to care for your child can sometimes be daunting.  Leaving your child in the care of someone means taking a risk with the child’s safety and welfare.  Therefore, it’s important to be sure that the person you choose to be the temporary carer for your child has the necessary abilities to do so and who you and your child feel comfortable with.

Babysitters will, more often than not, come to your house to look after a child.  They will need to know where you are going and when you expect to be back.  It is always a good idea to give the babysitter contact details – just in case of an emergency.  They also need to know the child’s routine, your home rules, your child’s likes and dislikes.

Ask people you know and trust for recommendations.  Good babysitters get well known quickly and word of mouth is always a good way of finding a trustworthy babysitter.  It is essential to meet personally with any prospective babysitter before you make the decision to leave your child with them and let them meet your child.
