Metropolitan police tracking online offenders

Following publication of the Sex Offences Act (2002) when grooming via the internet was criminalised, the Metropolitan Police have had to recognise that it needed to develop ways of pursuing and prosecuting those involved. The answer was to set up a separate unit within the Metropolitan police dealing with the issue of inappropriate internet contact being made by adults with vulnerable and underage children. This unit is now made up of 60 officers.

The fact that there is a call for such a large unit shows the power of the internet and the need for safety when children are using it. For more information on the ChildProtectionCompany’s e-safety training programme, click here.
