Councils slash childcare training

A freedom of information request has revealed that councils have cut training for childcare staff by at least 40%, with some local authorities having no budget at all.  This means many childminders and nurseries are having to find and fund their own training.

The release of these figures comes as the results of the governments Childcare Commission are about to be to published, this report is widely expected to include plans to reduce staff to child ratios in early years settings.

There is some concern that reduction in training funding and a reduction in ratios could compromise standards and safeguards.  For more details click here.
