Police in Northern Ireland have confirmed that they have been monitoring a Facebook page which has been printing the names and addresses of people in the local area alleged to be involved in mistreating children and even more serious cases, as well as details of those who have been convicted.
The Facebook page is being followed by about 1,000 people. Although the Police have admitted that they have identified the person responsible for the page, no action has yet been taken to remove the page.
Chief Inspector Sam Donaldson defended the action by saying that the vast majority of information shown on the site was already in the public domain. He understood that the management of offenders was understandably an emotive issue but reassured the public that the police were fully committed to dealing with the issue in a protective and professional way.
