New Children’s Minister calls for more stringent training

The new Children’s Minister, Edward Timpson – appointed during September’s Cabinet re-shuffle – has called for social work training to be overhauled. He was speaking at the National Children and Adult Services conference in Eastbourne earlier this week where he told those attending that social work should be attracting the brightest and best people available and he wanted to make the whole profession more attractive to new recruits.

After talking to delegates about wanting to cut pointless red tape away from the foster care process, he went on to say that urgent action is also needed in order to improve the standards of residential care for children and young people. He said “What matters most is that children and young people get the care, support and protection they deserve and need”.
