A House of Commons Education Select Committee has carried out an examination of child protection in England. As a result of their examination, they said that more children at risk should be put into care and that too often, the benefit of the doubt was given to neglectful parents, leaving children in situations where they are subjected to long-term, chronic neglect.

Their report also said that there was not enough support available for older children which could lead to them being left vulnerable to predatory behaviour of adults.

It was recognised that extending support services further than they already reach would obviously have a financial impact.
