Figures released last month showed that almost a quarter of childcare providers in England were making a loss and that more than half of child minders and those offering after-school and holiday care have had to freeze their fees.

Research now suggests that two-thirds of local authorities in England, Wales and Scotland are not providing sufficient holiday care with most councils cutting their holiday childcare budgets last year.

The Daycare Trust report says that the importance of accessible and affordable holiday childcare cannot be overstated.
