The Department of Education has given its backing to a programme which supports children and young people affected by domestic abuse. The programme is to be run by Victim Support and will commence in June 2013.
“An NSPCC study from 2011 found that 12 per cent of under-11s, 18 per cent of 11- to 17-year-olds and 24 per cent of 18- to 24-year-olds had been exposed to domestic abuse between adults in their homes during childhood.” (Source: CYP)
There can be serious consequences for children living with domestic abuse, both physical and psychological. Working Together 2013 include in its definitions of child abuse: Emotional abuse – It may involve seeing or hearing the ill-treatment of another.
