Concern over CCTV cameras in school toilets and changing rooms

Following a Freedom of Information Act request to more than 2,000 schools, the group Big Brother Watch has today published figures which suggest that more than 200 schools are using CCTV cameras in their toilets or changing rooms. This raises concerns over the privacy of students and staff and could raise child protection issues in relation to those using the toilets and changing rooms. Questions are being asked about why the cameras are being used and what happens to the footage.

One head teacher defended the actions of his school and said that the cameras are above the doors entering the toilets and only overlook the washbasins.
