A meeting at UNICEF House, New York on 26 March 1013 brought together International experts to discuss the issue of violence against children and how best to advocate for the children affected.
A report on the UNICEF website states:
UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Martin Mogwanja told the meeting that violence against children, in all of its forms, is exceedingly difficult to quantify and massively under reported. “Well over 25 per cent of children report being physically abused. Tragically, only a small proportion of these maltreated children, less than 10 per cent, even in high-income countries, ever come in contact with child protection authorities,”.
The purpose of the meeting was to ensure that the issue of child protection be explicitly placed on the development agenda after the expiration of the Millennium Development Goals in 2015.
