Call for Welsh inquiry

The Welsh First Minister is to be requested by the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler, to launch a new inquiry into the care of children in north Wales in the 1970s and 1980s.

In 2000, the Waterhouse Inquiry Report was published. This looked into allegations centred around a care home and child protection issues which were raised. However, it is now believed that the Waterhouse Inquiry uncovered only a fraction of events surrounding the care home.

Mr Towler said “Sometimes when people move to protect individuals or institutions, they do so at the expense of victims and that it unacceptable.”
