To work effectively with other agencies it is necessary for you to be aware of some of the tools used and understand the roles of the statutory agencies. In so doing positive communications and information sharing can be achieved which will contribute to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Effective child protection requires a coordinated multi agency approach as set out in the Statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children 2013.  The above quote is from one of our child protection training courses, and learning about working with other agencies is a key part of all our safeguarding courses. Some of the main agencies you may need to work with to fulfil your child protection responsibilities are:

  • Children’s Social Care Services
  • Police
  • Health
  • Education
  • Child and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS)
  • Probation
  • Voluntary Sector

To learn more about their roles and multi-agency working the Further Child Protection course has modules which detail the roles of statutory and non statutory agencies, with exercises to highlight the importance of working together, and information on how to gain support and advice, and how to make any necessary referrals when indicated.

The relevant sections of the assessment framework – a multi agency child protection tool – and statutory procedures are also explained.  The aim of the modules on working with other agencies is to help the learner build the knowledge and confidence to work with these agencies and share information appropriately to safeguard children .
