Effective 28th May 2012, the CRB’s identity check guidelines are due to be strengthened in order to improve public protection.
The changes are an effort to make it more difficult for anyone to conceal having previous criminal records by changing their identity.
The new process will have three different routes, one of which includes an option to use an external id validation check which can be used by organisations for those applicants who can’t provide the required documentation. Details of this service haven’t yet been confirmed.
The CRB will be running both the new and the existing guidelines systems in parallel until 31st August, so as to help organisations comply with the new guidelines.
