Introduction to Adult/Child Protection


Module One - Pre-course Assessment

Consists of five scenarios each followed by two questions with multiple choice answers to help you assess your current level of knowledge. The scenarios helps you to begin thinking how abuse may manifest itself in different situations and the actions you might take in response.

Module Two - Overview

A brief outline of safeguarding, including a number of statistics you may find shocking.

Module Three - Legislation and Guidance

Although you will not be expected to know and quote individual pieces of safeguarding legislation, this module helps you to understand just how much legislation is in place and why it is needed.

Module Four - What is Abuse and Neglect?

This module explores how abuse is defined. By understanding the definitions of abuse and the various forms in which it may manifest itself you will be able to detect, prevent and reduce it.

Module Five - Signs and Indicators of Abuse and Neglect

Children,young people and adults at risk often find it very difficult to talk about the abuse they're experiencing. They may also be very quiet and compliant so as not to draw attention to themselves. The may display their anxiety in different ways, such as having challenging or changed behaviours.

Abusers can also become very skilled at covering their tracks and may appear as very caring people. This module details the signs and indicators of the different types of abuse you should look for.

Module Six - Maintaining a Person Focus

A person centred approach is vital whenever you're working with children, young people and adults at risk, but even more so where there may be concerns for an individual's safety and welfare. This module reinforces that the safety and welfare of the individual is paramount and should always be the focus of actual outcomes.

Module Seven - Responding to Concerns

This module will help you to understand the correct procedures to follow in response to concerns of abuse and/or concerns about the behaviour of an adult, including a step-by-step guide for referring any concerns you may have.

Module Eight - Assessment

Through a scenario based assessment discover how much of the course you've absorbed and why it's so important to have child protection awareness training.

At the end of the course, if you're successful, you'll also be able to download a personalised Training Course Certificate, which remains valid for 2 years.
